COMPASS in Progress

All of us wish all of you the most joyous of holiday seasons and a happy, healthy new year in 2018! We will leave you and 2017 with just a few notes and reminders:

  • If you manage undergraduate student majors, minors and certificates, or if you are a graduate coordinator or staff member who maintains student information in GIMS, we alert you that training related to COMPASS Release 3 became available Tuesday, Dec. 12th. If you already have access to GIMS and/or the ability to change undergraduate majors, you will not need to request new security. The training is in preparation for Release 3 on Jan. 16, 2018, which will offer new functionality in the Student Program/Plan. The online course, PRO337 – Student Program/Plan Maintenance, should take one to three hours, and can be taken in segments and at your leisure. It is important to take the training prior to Jan. 16th, since existing screens will no longer be available after that date and you will need to know how to use the new system. After you have taken the online course, you are welcome to stop by any time during our open labs, held the afternoons of Jan. 22-25 for in-person help and troubleshooting. These open labs are not instructor-led training, and are not mandatory. You can register for the labs via myTraining, by searching “Student Program/Plan Open Lab” or you can just stop by any time during the sessions. Online instruction guides and simulations are available on the Student Program/Plan toolkit via the Student Information System section of the Toolkit Resource Center.
In addition to the Student Program/Plan (Student Records area), Release 3 will offer ISIR Processing (Financial Aid), SHCC Immunizations (Campus Community, Student Health), and Residency Processing (Admissions, Student Records). Read more in the Release 3 article in the November issue of COMPASS Update, including the availability of training for staff who manage Student Groups (OUR001: Maintaining Student Groups); Student Health Care Center staff managing immunizations and health tests; and those who need to view student records. An easy-to-read guide to training requirements, types, intensity and availability is available on the COMPASS website. Training toolkits are live, and available at the following links:
  • Master Data Management (personal data) has been moved on the COMPASS Release Schedule from Aug. 20, 2018, to Fall 2018. We will keep you posted of new developments in this area.
  • UF Reporting Services has launched two new Enterprise Analytics training courses: Enterprise Reporting Analytics (ERA100) - an introduction to the reporting dashboard; and Report Authoring (ERA200) - exploring ways to create, enhance, customize, and manage reports and charts using Cognos Analytics - Reporting. The new version of Cognos Analytics allows you to swiftly and easily upload, manage and analyze data, and create customized reports and dashboards. It is available free to faculty and staff.
  • As we informed you last month, the myUFL portal will be upgraded Jan. 16th to include mobile-friendly navigation that adjusts and conforms to any smartphone, tablet, or large-screen device; cross-browser compatibility (certified browsers and versions listed here); the ability to create specialized workspaces; and a new look and feel, including a navigation icon in the upper right corner instead of a dropdown on the left. Read more, including how to re-bookmark your favorites, in the myUFL article in the November issue of COMPASS Update, or take a video tour of the new interface.
  • You can always visit the COMPASS website at compass.ufl.edu for details on the project and its elements, as well as archived articles in the News and Profiles section. You will receive the most recent information if you are subscribed to COMPASS Update. You can also request a personalized presentation for your college, unit or area via our Presentation Request Form.
